My name is Soumya Arvind Kumar

I am a Master's student in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech specializing in Software and Machine Intelligence. i will be graduating in August 2020. My interests include Software Development and Data Science. Having a strong passion for innovation with software, I have relevant programming skills along with a driven attitude.

Currently, I am working as a Research Assistant at Virginia Tech, collaborating with Campbell Lab to visualize factors from EEG dataset to understand patterns of abnormal brain activity shift in rodents. I am trying to build an interactive dashboard to provide efficient reporting and analytics for the seizure susceptibility data. This includes deploying multiple visualizations like time series, heatmaps and, error bar charts using D3.js and Python.

Proficient in programming languages like Java and Python, I also have prior experience of working with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MySQL, etc. and familiarity with frameworks such as jUnit, jQuery, NumPy, pandas, Keras, OpenCV, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, SciPy, D3, X3DOM etc. Through my projects, I have cultivated a thorough understanding of machine learning, data analytics, web development, data visualization, and object-oriented programming. I believe in constantly improving myself by expanding my horizons and focussing on value creation.

I've worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Virginia Tech has allowed me to interact with students from diverse backgrounds. I've handled a batch of about 100 students, assisted them with laboratory practical and office hours alongside my curriculum. This has made me a better time manager and also an effective communicator. Moreover working with groups of people in co-ordinance at the university as well as in the industry in challenging work environments has made me a true team player.
