Cadence software package has been used in Virginia Tech for teaching purpose for a number of years.
- Cadence has been used for class ECPE5545 - Introduction to VLSI design. This course is a one-semester course. This course offers students the fundamental of using VLSI layout tools, especially Cadence tools, to design VLSI circuits. It has been one of the most popular courses in this department. Many of the students, after taking this course, have gone out to the industry to work in the Micro-electronics field. Some of them have been working for big-name companies such as Intel, Cyrix, Texas Instrument, Lucent Technologies, etc.
- Cadence has been used for class ECPE5546 - Advanced course of VLSI design. This course is a subsequent course of ECPE5545. This course offers more details of designs that are related to VLSI. It includes materials like high-level layout, synthesize, and simulation. The Cadence tools are fundamental to this course. Many of the projects are actually accomplished using Cadence capabilities.
